Thank you all for a very fabulous semester, I really enjoyed all the presentations. You guys were marvelous.

Just a note. This blog is closed as of. May 14, 2011 at 11:53 am. Any blogs posted after this time, WILL NOT BE GRADED. I have given extensions after extensions.I will be grading and recording  now. TIME IS UP.

This is the last week of this semester. Final presentations must be done by Wednesday May 11 9pm.
Some of you have been no call no show on Skype. My personal cell number is listed on both this blog and D2L. If you are having trouble with Skype, you can always call me.
Some of you added me by name to Skype. This put you the wrong account. You must add Communication20111 to have the proper contact.
All top of the hour presentation times are now filled.If you missed your presentation, the burden of rescheduling falls to you. There is a chance I can squeeze you in on the half hour, but the scheduled students will take precedence over the rescheduled.

200 points rides on this presentation with an additional 100 point possible for all proficiency project work done, this presentation being part of that work also. That is a whopping 300 points. That is close to a 1/3 of your grade.

This is my last note of encouragement to you, class, if you haven't finished by now, then please plan to do so by May 11. Grades will be posted by May 17 and will be available to you May 18.

On the final home stretch

May 10th is the very last day for any assignments, observations or presentations to be done. Norhing will be graded or accepted after that date. The dropboxes will be locked and assignments via email will not be accepted. All web presentations (Skype, etc) must be done by this date.

Many of you still have those final two observations to do and put in the dropbox. Since this class encourages self management of time, please understand that this is your final time check.

Most of you have signed up for a  presentation date. Check my blog two or so blogs back to see if your name is on the need to schedule list.

This has been an amazing semester. Many of you have gone from being confused about the computer to proficient in online communication. Welcome to the educated world of technology.

You guys are getting the hang of this blogging stuff. I hope you have found somewhere to do your two hour observation of a trainer, like at Rainbow Fleet or some other place where training is held. It is best to get these observation hours done and out of the way.

Your research papers should be on your mind. It is due March 8.

Remember, you have to have the topic approved. Most of you have done this. However, if someone does a paper without approval, you stand the chance of having your paper rejected and you lose the easy 25 points of submitting the topic for approval.

Please read your syllabus and the rubrics for this paper so that you know what is expected of you. This paper must have references in the text and a reference page as well. You may consult OWL Perdue on how to write your references in APA format.

From here on out, your Powerpoint and your final webcam live video presentation will be rendered from your research paper. This is your chance to become an expert on a subject in early education.

Proposal for Research paper

Dear Class. I am going to be out of town this next week. The proposals that have been submitted, I have given feed back to the students. If you get a chance to put your proposal in the dropbox by Saturday night, I will approve/or suggest something else before I leave on Sunday morning. I will not have access to a pc until Thursday so I will give you feedback by Friday. Some of you are on top of your studies and want quick feedback, so I'm just giving you a head's up. So far the topics that have come in are really thoughtful. Great job.

Research Proposal

Your next big assignment is your research paper. Before you can begin this, you must run it by me for approval.
In Microsoft Office WORD. write a sentence or two that let's me know what you plan to become an expert on this semester.
I might ask you to narrow the topic down, such as if you ask to report of Child Abuse, I might challenge you to narrow it down to Physical or Emotional or In step families or generational.
This needs to be a subject you are passionate about or just want to know more of.
This will be what you write your paper on, make your powerpoint from and finally present to me via Skype, Yahoo Messenger or MSN messenger using a webcam.
I can not and will not tell you what to write on. Making a decision like this is part of your education. Trust yourself. Bellieve me there is plenty of information out there to research any topic you can dream of.
I know my personal experience with this was when as a preschool teacher, I had so many things I wanted to tell parents. (set them straight. ) I ended up writing a 167 page book with 10 pages of references on various topics. Oddly enough, I learned that most parents are doing the best they can for their children and I needed to be more compassionate. Odd how research opens your eyes.
In your dropbox is a place to put your research proposal. this is due Feb 8. Please don't write your paper without my approval on the topic.
Have fun finding your topic and may you have good success.

Importance of Blogging

Blogging weekly is vital to your success in this class. I need to encourage all students who have not done Journal 2 to get this written in a timely manner. My friends who are waiting on your textbooks, thank you for writing a glimpse of your day in child care with us.(3points) Don't forget to catch up with the blogs as soon as you do get the book.(20 points)

I did some figuring and your blogs equal almost half your grade in this class.Participation is essential.

Those of you who communicate with me via email, thank you also. I am available to each of you. This is a communications class and when you use electronic technology to communicate, you become more proficient leaders.

Syllabus

I need to know that each of you has seen and can access the class syllabus. Please let me know here if you can. Many are asking about assignments and all the assignments are explained on the syllabus. I'm concerned that you guys can't see it. Just leave a comment, please.

Books

I have heard from several of you about not having the text book for this class because of the bookstore's glitch. While I do expect assignments to be done on time, I understand that this is a problem. Because I have to know you are participating, then I will ask you to write a short blog about  your biggest communication concern between you and clients,(the parents.)

You will still be expected to do the Journal entries to catch up once you get your text books.

Be sure to use paragraph form. No less than 5 sentences.

Keep it confidential. Do not use names of people or your childcare facility.
